GUtech Sports Hall, 10th May 2017
Under the motto “reconnect through sports” the last Tuesday Champs competition in the summer term was held in the sports hall, where more than 65 GUtech male students have participated.
Each game was compressed into 10 minutes, since 24 games had to be played within 5 hours. Therefore games were filled of non-stop actions in full speed from all the teams. Duels, shots to the goal and passing combinations happened very frequently – it seemed that the desire of all teams to win the competition was vast.
Already during the first matches many goals have fallen in the fully crowded GUtech sports hall –Applied Geosciences student, Musaab Al Nabhani, was chosen by fate to score as first in the competition.
After 20 battles with many wins and losses and just 3 draws, team “Nummer eins”, 1st of group B with 10 points and a solid score balance of 7 for and just 1 against goals, crashed team “Escobar”, 2nd of group A, in the semi-final with 5:0 – the goals were just fascinating.
The other semi-final between team “Libya”, 1st of group A with the most scored goals (12) in the group stage and just 2 counter goals, and team “Mutrah”, 2nd of group B, was also exciting and a very close game, which led through a 0:0 to a penalty shootout. Team “Mutrah” have shown confidence and qualified through a 2:1 win to the final game.
Team “Libya”, the dominant group stage team, faced in the game for the 3rd place against team “Escobar” some difficulties. They could score twice, but team “Escobar” was able to equalize and have afterwards defeated the very strong team “Libya” in a penalty shootout.
In the final game team “Nummer eins”, leaded by captain Ali Al Hajri, Applied Geosciences student, and team “Mutrah” clashed for the 2nd time during the competition against each other – team “Nummer eins” had already won in a tough group stage with a 1:0 lead against the mentioned team. Ths 2nd match, which was the final game of the competition, was much richer with goals.
Team “Nummer eins” was able to lead the game, but team “Mutrah” could equalize the score 3 times, which brought the third penalty shootout of the competition.
The final penalty shootout protocol:
1st penalty for team “Nummer eins”: Captain Ali Al Hajri misses unlucky.
1st penalty for team “Mutrah”: Youngster of GUtech Futsal team Yaqghdan Al Tamtami, which absolved a very strong competition, misses as well.
2nd penalty for team “Nummer eins”: Goal! Ali Al Siyabi is able to score with an elegant shot.
2nd penalty for team “Mutrah”: Mohammed Al Busaidi scores too.
3rd penalty for team “Nummer eins”: Musaab Al Nabhani is able to score too. The pressure is growing for team “Mutrah”.
3rd penalty for team “Mutrah”: Mazin Al Houti looks confident, doesn’t even look to the goalkeeper eyes, but Amur Al Wahaibi is able to block the shot.
Team “Nummer eins”, which means number one in German, is indeed the number one of the GUtech futsal competition 2017, what a prediction.
The most valuable field player of the competition was Ali Al Siyabi. The justification was to rank in the competition first, to score many goals and to bring his team to another level.
The price for the most valuable goalkeeper went to Ghassan Al Siyabi. The 18 year young goalkeeper made a terrific tournament, saved his team from many counter goals and was a crucial key for building attacks for his team.
Congratulations to the winner team and a big thank you to all participants and spectators – all of you made this evening unforgettable.
